You ever see something and you know its meant to be? Well thats how I felt when I laid my eyes on the fabric I used for this Spring/Summer & even Fall dress, Know Me 2042!
I knew I wanted to do something eye opening!
Something that would be a head turner! Something that would raise eye brows! And I did that with this non-traditional Ankara fabric!
Know me 2042 has options! Nit only is it perfect for Spring, Summer, & Fall. You can wear it a variety of places I would easily choose this as an option for a wine festival, brunch, or a date.
Sew How Easy Was It?
Let’s break it into sections starting with the sleeves!
Sleeve
The sleeves were actually much easier than I anticipated! On a difficulty scale of 1-10 (10 being the most difficult) the sleeves were 3.5. There were 2 pattern pieces, the sleeve & the ruffle. The ruffle is created first. It is important to leave adequate seam allowance because it will be used to create a casing for the elastic which is needed to created the ruffle effect.
Then the ruffle is attached to one part of the sleeve leaving room at the bottom & top of sleeve. Sandwich ruffle into sleeve pieces, right sides together & stitch then flip right sides out. Last step is to create casing at shoulders & insert elastic.
Bodice
The bodice has several pattern pieces which are stitched together & the seam allowance between each piece is used to create a casing for the corset wire.
The first pieces to stitch together is the center pieces which form the circular cutout in the middle of the back. Then the other pieces attach to the sides.
It is important to note the direction of the circular cut out (which is the top and which is the bottom) so everything lines up when stitching it all together.
Difficulty is about 5/10. There are lots of steps, you myst transfer all your markings & notches & its easy to make a mistake with this part.
Welted Pockets
The welted pickets are a little challenging. There are two welted pockets, one on each front skirt piece. Some of the pattern pieces require interfacing.
Difficulty is 8/10. There are lots of steps, it is important to transfer all markings & notches & follow each step. It is easy to make a mistake when adding these pockets. They can be skipped.
Skirt
The shirt is fairly simple. There are 2 pattern pieces the front & back. The difficulty is 1/10.
Buttons/Button Holes
After the skirt & bodice are complete and sewed together to form the dress. There is a pattern piece that is interfaced, one is attached to the right & one is attached to the left side of the dress. This is where the buttons & button holes will be.
The button holes go on the left side & the buttons on the right side. There are markings that tell you exactly where each button & button hole will go. Difficulty 6/10.
Alternative: sew an invisible zipper in lieu of buttons & button holes. Difficulty 5/10.
